I love Korean dramas and I recently finished watching the SungKyungKwan scandal series. The story is set in the Joseo era, so it involves the history of Korea. The SungKyungKwan is a well know university where the scholars study the way of Confucius. The heroine Kim-yun-hee, in the story pretends to be his brother Kim-Yun-Shik in order for her to enter the university. She’s a smart girl who transcribes text from books, back in the day’s women only stays home and studying in a university is unnecessary and prohibited, but in her case she pretends to be a man and work in a bookstore to feed her family and pay for her brother’s medication. To pay for her family’s debt, Lee-Sung-Jun, her love interest in the story convinced her to enter Sungkyungkwan because he thinks her talents would only be put to waste if she’s going to spend her life transcribing books. Well he doesn’t know she’s a girl yet.
I like this series because it has a light romance, the drama is unique, it is comical especially when all the main characters are together, and they really portrayed their roles well. This series has 20 episodes and I never thought I would stay up all night just to finish it. I got too hooked because of the weird romance. You know how the guy repels himself from the heroine because he thinks he’s falling in love with a man, which he really could not believe. Oh how I love the bromance here, it’s so intriguing it makes my heart flutter every time I see them caring for each other in a sort of a manly but odd way. He did find out she’s a girl, which made him relieved. All in all the series is great, but I really wasn’t happy about the epilogue. I think that it could be better. The story is so good that I hope the epilogue could be better. I still can’t get over the bromance though.

I saw this news online; a dental assistant was terminated because she was irresistible and attractive for her boss. Melissa Nelson worked in her boss's dental clinic for 10 years and the problem began when she started wearing tight clothes, her boss got distracted and his wife got jealous of her husband's attraction to an employee. She has become a marriage threat and the wife decided to take action before worse comes to worst. Iowa Supreme Court determined the question to be "whether an employee who has not engaged in flirtatious conduct may be lawfully terminated simply because the boss views the employee as an irresistible attraction."
If you ask me, it is unfair to fire someone just because she's too sexy, attractive or irresistible, not to mention taking that to court, it's just so narrow-minded. But I understand what the wife is trying to do, to save their marriage; Nelson must step out and disappear. The dental assistant should have known better but to cover up and just try not to be sexy if it's a distraction, but one cannot help it if they have the looks or the body and it's human's nature to be attracted physically. The wife should have made an effort to lure the attention of her husband back to her; maybe she's becoming too boring. My suggestion to the wife is why not ask Melissa Nelson how to be irresistible? That would save their marriage even in the long run.

I have come to notice the movies and the TV drama series that the Philippines are making, it all involves cheating, bastards, secret affairs, divorce, obsession, sex and scandal, maybe because it is the reality now that this is happening and cannot be avoided. And I don’t know why people like these movie trends. It has become popular nowadays, the love triangle that we are seeing in Asian TV drama series. I don’t know why we are so entranced by these trends. Yes, it’s quite entertaining to see three people being played with circumstance. It’s intriguing but in reality it sucks.
If you ask me, I don’t think that it’s good to promote these kinds of films because our kids today might misunderstand or likely be confused about what they are seeing. These kids especially the young adults that are in their most crucial stage of life might think it’s alright to have an affair while you are married. It might show them how cruel reality is or they might be experiencing these kinds of things in their family, which can add weight to their burden. I think it would be best that they should make more family oriented films, films that show hope, unity and inspiration, a film or TV series which the whole family can enjoy.
